-mer - mer

HAHA HAHA...
Is my title sounded interesting? attractive?? Cool? Funny?? or whatsoever..

haha... ok.. enuf of laughing...
well.. actually.. those "-mers" are referring to Chemistry ^^

btw, indeed.. i miss Mr Douglas so much!!
Now tukar tcher - Mr Freddy -
Quite serious.. but can b funny at time..

Since SPM is juz around the corner..
haha.. shall not play so much little Flora.. XP... hoho..

Today we learnt abt Polymer at tuition...
  • Polymer is a large molecule made up of many identical subunits called monomers.
  • Monomer are small molecules that make up the repeating units and covalently bonded to form a polymer.
Polymerisation : is a process by which the monomers are joined together to form polymer.

There are two types of polymerisation:-
  1. Addition polymerisation
  2. Condensation polymerisation
Polymers can be divided into two types:-
  1. Natural polymers (obtained from organisms)
  2. Synthetic polymers (made by human)
There are three natural polymers
  1. Protein ; monomer: amino acid
  2. Strach, cellulose, glycogen ; monomer: glucose
  3. Natural ruber/ polyisoprene/ poly2-methylbuta-1, 3-diene ; monomer: isoprene/ 2-methylbuta-1, 3-diene
Then right.. we learnt how to draw the monomer and polymer for Polythene (polyethene), Polypropene, Polyvinyl chloride (polychloroethene) ---> also known as PVC

Ques:
State one advantage of PVC pipe compared to iron pipe.
ans: PVC doesn't rust. ;)

haha... actually quite nice to post what we had learnt :p
can rmbr better.. ^^

Then do u know those black colour thing we see on the pans??
actually they're TEFLON.. one kind of Synthetis polymer oH.. interesting kan??
Next time enter Sc stream.. LOL..

GLASS
*not grass o.. hoho..
  • The main component of glass is Silicon Dioxide, SiO2, which exists naturally in sand..
Have u ever wondered glass is made up by what?
It's mainly SAND!!!.. oh dear.. r u kidding? haha.. [i guess if i bcum tcher one day.. memang kesian the students la.. zzz.. ]
  • General properties of glass:
  1. Transparent [obviously.. zzz]
  2. Hard but brittle
  3. electric insulator
  4. Chemically inert [chemically not reactive] --> this one IMP!!
haha.. now come to Ceramic.. Yo Yo..
LOL.. Zi High [self-high] zzz...

Main component: Kaolin/ hydrated aluminium silicate
General properties of ceramic:
  • withstand high temp (better than glass o.. oh.. better than grass.. hoho^^.. zzz )
  • hard but brittle
  • insulator of electric
  • Chemically inert
Uses:
  • making construction materials
  • tableware
  • inner wall of a furnace
  • decorative item such as Vases
FYI, this is FURNACE..

Lol.. isn't it chemistry is attractive??
haha...
